Tucker Meyer has three favorite things: the open road, doing things his own way, and his wife.

Especially his wife.

So, when Tucker convinces Tasha to trade a flight for a Christmas road trip from Las Cruces to Sarasota, he has the perfect newlywed adventure in mind: a few fun stops, plenty of uninterrupted time together, and a little breathing room before they reach his parents’ house — and his mother’s inevitable questions about grandchildren.

Then Alabama happens.

Torrential rain floods I-10 near the Florida border, forcing Tucker and Tasha to detour to Shermanville, a picturesque little town a few miles from their route. With the highway closed and no reliable way to contact anyone back home, they check into a historic bed-and-breakfast and make the best of being stranded.

At first, Shermanville feels like an unexpected Christmas gift. There are holiday lights, friendly faces, a bustling bazaar, and nowhere they need to be except together.

But people keep staring at his wife.

A woman mistakes her for someone else. Locals fall silent when she enters a room. And when Tucker loses sight of Tasha during a hike and sees a woman who looks exactly like her disappear into the woods, the detour begins to feel like something far more troubling than bad weather.

With the roads still flooded and Christmas drawing closer, Tucker and Tasha must find their way through a town full of strangers, one unnerving mystery, and the fears neither expected on their first married holiday.

Because recognizing someone isn’t the same as truly knowing them.

And in Shermanville, that difference may matter more than either of them realizes.
